Finding A Good Tradesman in Mansfield

As I wander around my lovely home town of Mansfield, I am heartened to see that summer is looming. Not just from the gorgeous smell of freshly cut grass sweeping through the air or the masses of sun tan lotion on sale, but by the amount of houses that are being put up for sale.

This time last year, I decided to do the same thing and thankfully (despite the recession), managed to sell it, pack it and move on. Surprisingly to me, despite having moved into a new build, I discovered a mountain of jobs that needed doing in my new home. I also discovered that managing to get good tradesmen was, quite frankly, a nightmare. In fact, more often than not I was so pleased when I actually managed to find my Jack for the trade that I failed to motivate myself to get comparative quotes. Needless to say, I went vastly over budget and ended up having to put a lot of jobs on the back burner until such time as my bank account had recovered. I dread to think what Martin Lewis would say.

A year on, and as my bank account is showing a slight heart beat once again, I have decided there is no excuse to ignore those jobs that need finishing.  The time has come to start looking for tradesmen once again.

Although the prospect of this has made me consider (on more than one occasion) whether I would rather do this or bang my head against a brick wall, I have discovered a new online facility that might just help me avoid all this pain.

Having moaned to anyone who would listen about my tradesmen nightmare, I have been informed about a new website called Buildbuzz, which helps bridge the gap between homeowners and tradesmen.

This is a new facility which at this moment in time is focused specifically on the East Midlands area and based just outside Mansfield.  The idea is that homeowners can post jobs for FREE.  These jobs are then quoted by tradesmen, and homeowners can then make their choice.  They can make this choice not only based on those quotes, but also on the feedback and review system - a feature I am particularly keen on after I hired a rather odd job man who broke my Betty Boop mug and hid it behind my kettle.

The site is run by trained quantity surveyors, who are responsible for ensuring that the correct contractor is chosen. All tradesmen on the site are required to have insurance that covers them up to £5million, so home improvement nightmares are a thing of the past.

I will definitely be using this facility and hope to get that patio done in time for summer evenings of wine drinking.
