BBC2 will be showing a new series of Stargazing LIVE from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 January. Like most astronomy societies and some other organisations, Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society will be holding an event at our observatory in conjunction with the show.
Wednesday 9 January from 8.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.
No pre-booking required - just come to the observatory on the night.
Entry is free (but voluntary donations, which will be used for observatory running, maintenance and improvement costs, will be much appreciated).
During the evening we will have the following activities available:
Night Sky Viewing - Weather permitting, we will have several telescopes set on various objects viewable at this time of year. Society members will explain in more detail what is being viewed and to show people around the night sky and constellations.
Telescope Training - If you received a telescope for Christmas, or even have an old one at the back of a cupboard, and you don't know how to set up or use it correctly then bring it along and we'll try to help you. Please bring any instructions, fittings etc. that came with it. If it's raining we'll set up the scopes under cover or inside.
